The trailer for the comedy-drama Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video was recently unveiled on social media. Running for 3 minutes and 32 seconds, the trailer is set in 1990s Rishikesh and features Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri as Vicky and Vidya, a couple whose plan to film their wedding night goes awry when their CD is stolen. Vijay Raaz stars as a police inspector who teams up with them to recover the missing CD. The film also includes performances by Mallika Sherawat, Mast Ali, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, and a special dance sequence by Shehnaaz Gill.
Released on September 12, 2024, the trailer sparked speculation that the film might be inspired by Jake Kasdan’s Sex Tape. However, in a recent interview, director Raaj Shaandilyaa clarified that his film is a Hindi comedy with no ‘sex’ involved.
What did Raaj Shaandilyaa say?
In an interview with Press Trust of India (PTI), director Raaj Shaandilyaa said, “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video follows the titular married couple on a frantic search of a CD with a video of their wedding night, whereas Sex Tape revolves around a married couple who make a sex tape to spice up their relationship only to wake up the next morning to find that it has gone missing.”
He further revealed that he became aware of a film titled Sex Tape after the trailer release of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which is set in the 1990s.
“The characters and story are different. Our film has nothing to do with Sex Tape. I’ve not even seen Sex Tape. I didn’t get inspired by it, rather I got inspired by life and the people around me.”
Raaj Shaandilyaa revealed that he is already developing a sequel to his upcoming film, which will focus on the early days of the Internet. The sequel will be set 10-15 years after the events of the first film, exploring the impact of the Internet’s emergence. Raaj Shaandilyaa stated that the story has been written, and the film will be produced after he completes another project.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a comedy film co-written and directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, produced by T-Series, Balaji Motion Pictures, Wakaoo Films, and Kathavachak Films. The film stars Rajkummar Rao, Triptii Dimri, Vijay Raaz, Mallika Sherawat, Mast Ali, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Saharsh Kumar Shukla, Archana Patel, Rakesh Bedi, Tiku Talsania, and Ashwini Kalsekar in key roles. The film is slated to hit the theatres on October 11, 2024 clashing with Alia Bhatt’s Jigra.
For those unfamiliar, the inspiration for the film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video came from co-writer Yusuf Ali Khan, with its screenplay starting to get drafted in 2018. Raaj said he had wanted to work with Rajkummar Rao for a long time, but the casting of Triptii Dimri happened as a result of a search for a new pairing, and she was signed for this film much before the Animal phenomenon occurred.
