Zee TV Middle East has started shooting the first Indian drama in the recent past to be completely shot in the UAE. The series is titled Parwaaz (meaning ‘to take flight’) and is slated to air on Zee TV Middle East from November 8 2014.

The storyline of the fiction drama, set in the 90s, is interesting. The lives of Adarsh from India and Sikandar from Pakistan intersect in Dubai in the early 90s when they come here for their dream jobs. However, fate plays a cruel hand when they find that they have been duped by their employment agent back home. Their story of struggle, grit and friendship plays out over a span of 20 years – from their humble beginnings of odd jobs for survival to their success and the trials and tribulations along the way. The story of Sikander and Adarsh spanning over two decades will be showcased in a 13 part series of one hour each.

Still from the shoot

Speaking about the show, Zee TV’s Chief Content and Creative Officer, Manoj Mathew says, “The unique thing about UAE is the way the country embraces and rewards those willing to work hard and dream. Parwaaz is a story which will resonate with everyone who has left their homeland for a shot at success here in UAE. Here, Indians and Pakistanis live side by side and share their happiness and sorrows with each other in friendships that transcend boundaries.”

The drama is being shot across the UAE at different locations. Director Faheim Inamdar (of Uttaran fame) who is here from India to work on the show, says, “It’s a challenge to work on a period drama where most of the shoot depicts UAE in the early 90s. Given the massive developments across the UAE year on year, it’s very difficult to showcase the past. Extensive research has gone into ensuring that every element in the frame – be it costumes, mobile phones, cars are all true to the time and age we are trying to showcase and I am very excited about the end result.”

The entire project is being undertaken by UAE based Magnum Opus Productions. Pre-production work for the drama series was in full swing over the last few months. Says Suhael Anwar, Managing Partner, Magnum Opus Productions “We auditioned across the UAE for Parwaaz and you will be amazed with the incredible talent in this country. Quite a few of the star cast are local faces, so rest assured that the unique local flavor of UAE will be on full display in the show.”

The show goes on air from November 8 on ZEE TV.
