Ye Dil Mera, Episode 14: Amaan Begins Creating a Rift Between Aina and Farooq

In Ye Dil Mera, Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly’s Amaan and Aina are now married and enjoying newly married bliss with a side of mind games and manipulation

Ye Dil Mera continues to impress viewers with a solid storyline backed by impressive performances by its lead actors, including Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Adnan Siddiqui.  The story is a romantic thriller and it certainly has shades of both romance (if you want to call it that) and thrills.  But to add to it, the story has layered characters and discusses different topics like mental health and the lingering effects of loss.  There’s a lot to unpack in a story like this and this show tends to be the gift that keeps on giving, keeping viewers hooked.

Episode 14 opens with Farooq (Adnan Siddiqui) concerned about Aina and expressing them to Ali Baksh (Paras Masroor), who is still hurt by Amaan’s words – and this is made worse when Farooq refers to Ali Baksh as his worker.  Paras Masroor does a brilliant job of conveying Ali Baksh’s emotions here without changing his expressions in a noticeable way.  Ali Baksh is not an emotional man, but the way Paras Masroor owns this scene with his eyes is commendable.  Aina (Sajal Aly) and Amaan (Ahad Raza Mir) make up after their fight in the previous episode when Amaan writes Aina a note.

Later, when Amaan cracks a joke about dying, Aina expresses her fears regarding death and Amaan consoles her, apologizing for his joke.  It’s interesting to see how Ahad Raza Mir performs these scenes, because he always manages to give the audience exactly what they need to see.  He manages to smirk, indicating his devious plans, and show concern in his eyes, worried about Aina, both at the same time.  It’s a treat to watch.

On the other end, Farooq convinces Farhana to go back home as both he and Aina will not be in the house.  While she agrees, her husband senses her worry and asks her about her trip.  She tells him about her fears towards her sister’s death and he does his best to calm her, but both realize there is some sleuthing to be done.  Farhana makes an interesting point when she says that Bua Ji, Ali Baksh and Farooq all gave different details in regard to her sister’s death.  She states that she remembers every small detail of the death of her loved ones and her husband backs her up, both left wondering how such details could be easily forgotten.

Amaan hides Aina’s phone and watches as she runs around searching for it.  After Farooq calls to invite the two for a big dinner, Amaan accepts and then takes Aina out for a private dinner, keeping her in the dark about the invitation.  When they stop by Farooq’s house that night, he blasts them for missing the dinner and Aina is left shocked.  She fights with Amaan as he makes excuses about forgetting and the two share a war of words.  This scene can come across as familiar to many couples, but this scenario is painful to watch.  Amaan is doing his best to create a wedge between Aina and Farooq, breaking the loving bond between father and daughter.

Unfortunately, while Amaan is out to destroy Farooq, he’s really hurting Aina the most.  At present, she has become a woman trapped between the two men most important to her.  Sajal Aly is doing a brilliant job playing the naïve, sweet, innocent Aina and the audience has this fierce, motherly urge to hold Aina and protect her from the evil in the world which, unfortunately, includes both her father and her husband.  Aina is a lovable character and Sajal makes her so with her performance.  But the star of this episode is, again, Ahad Raza Mir who brings Amaan to life and really brings out many different emotions from the viewer.

In one moment, one feels sorry for him for all he has been through – but only seconds later, a deep feeling of hatred arises for this man who is destroying a family and breaking a young girl’s heart for revenge.  Ahad makes this complex character one that the viewer can’t peel their eyes away from, he adds so many dimensions to this character even in the span of five seconds.  Take a bow, Ahad Raza Mir.  Judging from the promo for the next episode, Amaan’s game will continue and Aina is seen confused and angry when Amaan forbids her from entering his piano room, which will lead to a fight.
