Rohit Bal, had a quirky surprise in store with his collection this season. Following Anamika Khanna’s installation display of her bridal collection, the night progressed into Rohit Bal’s couture show named, Shahaan-e-Khaas. The opulent showcase was an ode to the costumes of the Mughals, and the designer made sure to bring out the collection in all its grandeur! The show took place at the Bikaner House, a building with a colonial vibe, owned by the Rajasthan Government, adding to the historical feel of his creations.
The first few outfits from the glamourous collection, celebrated the colour ivory, which is also Bal’s signature hue. The designer displayed traditional art work through intricate and exquisite Kashmiri embroidery, making every outfit look fit for a king and queen. The collection was made up of well-structured jackets, capes, bandh gala’s and anarkalis.
The show that started with monochrome ensembles and whimsical whites, slowly progressed into jewel toned maroons, greens and blues, which came in as a pleasant surprise. Known for his love for luxury, the designer used yards of rich fabric, such as, pure silk, brocade and linens, which were paired beautifully with plain gathered skirts and richly embroidered jackets.
The designer also experimented with different motifs like the cock along with intricate detailing from Moghul paintings, displaying utmost majesty. As his showstopper, Bal had Arjun Rampal walk the ramp in an elegant black bandhgala.
