World's Largest Plane Makes a Landing in Dubai
Another record for the city!
One of the world's largest aircraft, the Antonov An-225 Mriya, recently touched down at the Dubai World Central, according to a report in Khaleej Times.
The Ukrainian cargo jet named Mriya is reportedly the longest and heaviest airplane ever built.
Six turbofan engines power the wide body aircraft, and it has a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes. It also has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service.
The aircraft was built to transport the Soviet space shuttle, the Buran, and is now used for cargo no other plane can handle. On its current flight to Perth, it reportedly carried a large generator purchased by a Western Australian resources company.
The aircraft made stops in Australia, Turkey and Malaysia before touching down in Dubai.
