Exactly who was behind the wheels of the Toyota Land Cruiser is a million dollar question! While there are doubts looming largely around the driver Ashok Singh’s confession, there seems to be no firm evidence that Salman Khan was behind the wheel either!
A couple of days ago, Bhai’s chauffeur Ashok Singh admitted that he was driving the star’s car when the accident happened in 2002, injuring four pavement dwellers, killing one man. As per reports in leading dailies, the prosecution had contended that Salman Khan was intoxicated and driving the vehicle and crashed it in the wee hours on September 28, 2002 into the American Express Bakery in Bandra, Mumbai.
Public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said that witnesses have testified before the court that they had seen Salman Khan getting off the driver’s seat, but nobody claimed to have seen Ashok Singh behind the wheel! Cynics have already concluded that the driver has probably been paid off to become a dummy witness. But, we are also intrigued by the complete silence from the other person who was in the car, such as singer Kamaal Khan! Why is he silent?
For the moment, it does seem like Salman Khan’s future is precariously balanced on circumstantial evidence from both the public prosecution and the defence. It is only a matter of time before someone buckles under pressure!
