It is all about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor at the moment. The parents’ wish to keep the christening private has raised many brows in the media and public. This event has happened amid the controversy around Frogmore Cottage’s renovations and has hence sparked more debate. The godparents are also unknown which is in the lieu of ‘respecting their wish to stay private.’ The ceremony that took place in the private chapel of Windsor Castle is one of the most discussed topics around the royal family at the moment.
However, this is not the first controversial christening in British royal history. Prince Harry’s own christening in Windsor was also not devoid of tension. The trouble in the royal family became evident on this event in 1984 when Prince Harry’s only paternal aunt Princess Anne decided not to attend her nephew’s christening. Instead, she chose to go for game shooting with her husband of that time Mark Phillips at their Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. The Palace released a statement after the ceremony
‘Unfortunately neither of them could make it. They will be arriving in Windsor later in the day.’
Princess Anne did not attend the christening of Prince Harry because she felt ignored. Her younger brother Prince Andrew was on the list of six godparents but not Anne. Princess Anne was also not on the list of godparents when Prince William was baptized. Her absence was not taken lightly as her father Prince Phillip did not speak to Prince Charles for some time. Princess Anne, also called Princess Royal, is said to be the favorite child of Prince Phillip. He had always been proud of her equestrian daughter and not been on warm terms with his son Prince Charles. Princess Anne and Princess Diana also did not get along well. Anne was unhappy with Diana for dealing with the media and public the way she did.
