It could be just a coincidence that Veere Di Wedding, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s first release post-marriage is a smash success. Sonam’s wedding that took place in Mumbai in May created headlines and the actress hasn’t had a moment’s rest after it, busy as she was, promoting her home production Veere Di Wedding. Not that Sonam or her family is complaining. Not surprisingly, the Kapoors are thrilled about it. “It isn’t superstition. It just feels nice to have such a success after marriage,” says Sonam who intends to take her delayed honeymoon break as soon as the post-release promotions for Veere Di Wedding are over.
One also hears that Sonam’s husband Anand who has a business empire stretching from Delhi to London may soon expand into film production with his father-in-law Anil Kapoor, sister-in-law Rhea and wife Sonam. Marriage has proved lucky for Sonam as much as for Telugu-Tamil actress Samantha Akkineni. After marriage to Nag Chaitanya in 2017 Samantha has had four big successes Mersel, Rangasthalam, Mahanati and Irumbu Thirai.
Sonam’s Veere Kareena Kapoor Khan’s releases after marriage Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Ki & Ka, Udta Punjab, and now Veere De Wedding have all been successes. The actress too has been completely dedicated to her work before and after marriage and motherhood. Hopefully, the perception that married actresses in India are not marketable would now change. Earlier, the day an actress got married, she would be expected to take a break from films as the popular notion was that married actresses do not have a pull at the all-important box office.
Veere di Wedding released last Friday to a great opening at the box office garnering almost INR 20 crores. Despite getting mixed reviews, the film has sustained and has found appreciation among women. The movie also ran into controversy with it being banned in Pakistan because of the use of cuss words however, that has had little impact on its performance. Sonam’s next release is Sanju, the much-awaited Sanjay Dutt biopic that releases end of June.
