Why does everyone dislike the new trailer for Sadak 2?
Since its release, the trailer has had over 5.9 million dislikes on YouTube
Director Mahesh Bhatt ended his 20 year hiatus for his upcoming film Sadak 2, however he is now at the centre of a major controversy.
Sadak 2 is the long awaited sequel to the 1991 hit Sadak, and sees Mahesh Bhatt collaborating with his daughter Alia Bhatt for the first time. Although fans have widely anticipated the film, controversy struck when the trailer for the film was released on Tuesday.
Instead of a mass reception, the video racked up over 5.9 million dislikes which disproportionately outweighs the 323,000 likes. The number of dislikes is still growing, and may soon become the most disliked video on the whole of YouTube.
A campaign to make the trailer the most disliked video on YouTube was introduced by fans of the late Sushant Singh Rajput just days before its release. They introduced the campaign in order to raise awareness for the corruption in the Bollywood film industry. Fans of Sushant Singh Rajput believe his suicide was caused by unfair exclusion from the film industry.
Mahesh Bhatt released a statement days before the trailer released saying, “Today as we begin the last leg of our journey.I feel unshackled! I carry no burden, no weight. No reputation to hold on to. No mission to accomplish. Nothing to prove to anyone. If the film works it belongs to all of you. If it does not, it’s mine”.
Sadak 2 will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on August 28. It was initially due to be released in cinemas however the coronavirus pandemic forced them to take the streaming route.
