When Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Had a Fallout - The Real Reason
Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's feud is a real blast from the past - there was a time when Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali didn't speak to one another. Today they are working together
Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are a dream director-actor pair. The two films they did together - Khamoshi and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam are nothing short of classics for film buffs. And now, they recently thrilled their fans by announcing they would come together once again in Inshallah, after 19 years. Salman had also done a small role in Saawariya. In fact, they were so close that once Bhansali's mother had said she had two sons. But there was a time when the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star and the Padmaavat director had a huge fallout.
The reason for this famous friendship going awry was simple: opportunism. During Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which was about two men (Ajay Devgn and Salman falling in love with the same girl Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), Salman was not pleased with the ending. He wanted Aishwarya to walk away with him and not with Ajay, who played her husband, at the end. Salman brought his buddy Sooraj Barjatya to meet and convince Bhansali that the proper conclusion to the love triangle was that Salman should “get” Aishwarya. But Bhansali stuck to his guns…. and Ajay Devgn was the lucky guy who got the girl!
A couple of years later, when Bhansali announced his third film Devdas, Salman naturally expected to be in it. He was shocked when Devdas was announced with his then archrival Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Devdas went on to become a huge hit.
Then began Salman's problems with Bhansali; the duo stopped talking for a while. But then again they gradually began bonding. And Bhansali in his effort to mend bridges with his buddy, sided with Salman when the latter and Aishwarya, who he was dating then, had a bitter break-up.
Bhansali then decided to make Bajirao Mastani with Salman and Kareena Kapoor Khan. They did a photoshoot together and so impressed was Salman with the results that he immediately called up director Priyadarshan and suggested that he make Kyun Ki with him and Kareena in the lead, thereby killing the freshness of Bhansali’s pairing in proposed epic. Kyun Ki tanked.
Meanwhile, Bajirao Mastani was put on the backburner and Bhansali turned to other projects like Black and Saawariya. Bajirao was eventually made with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.
However, years passed and time healed all the wounds. Today they are back together. Salman Khan has forgotten all the abuses he hurled at Bhansali and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has forgotten them too and moved on. They will be working together and fans will hope they can recreate the Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam magic again.
