We-Fi MENA Regional Summit to Tap the Potential of Women Entrepreneurs
The We-Fi MENA Regional Summit will be held in Dubai on 16-17 February, alongside Global Women’s Forum Dubai 2020
The We-Fi MENA Regional Summit — organised by Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi) and Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) — will be taking place on 16-17 February, alongside Global Women’s Forum Dubai (GWFD) 2020. More than 250 participants, including government officials, women entrepreneurs and business leaders, are expected to attend the summit which is focused on unlocking financing opportunities for women-led businesses in the developing world. The event will showcase programmes, institutions and research studies that can help build more opportunities for female entrepreneurs, in terms of policies, finance, markets, training and mentoring.
World Bank Group President David Malpass will be speaking at the opening session, highlighting the success of We-Fi in promoting women entrepreneurship around the globe and the importance of greater economic empowerment of women in the MENA region.
In the afternoon, Vice-President for Africa and Middle East of IFC (the World Bank Group’s private sector arm), Sérgio Pimenta will conduct a panel session based on the programmes, companies and institutions that have launched innovative solutions for female entrepreneurs to overcome obstacles to expanding their businesses. This will be followed by two Game Changer sessions with an investor and an entrepreneur narrating inspiring stories about their journey.
A plenary discussion, Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in the MENA Region: New Solutions to Overcoming Barriers, will highlight initiatives of the public and private sectors in supporting female entrepreneurs in the region. Panelists include Managing Director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Heike Harmgart, General Manager of Bank al Etihad, Nadia Al Saeed, Minister of International Cooperation, Egypt, Rania Al-Mashat, President of Global Public Affairs at UPS, Laura Lane and Vice President of Global Sustainability & Packaging Innovation at McCormick, Michael Okoroafor.
