Esha Gupta has been in the eye of an unsavoury controversy. She was a passionate follower of the Arsenal football club but a few days ago, a huge controversy broke out after the actress decided to share a screengrab of a WhatsApp conversation. So what was the chat all about? Just that a friend mocked the team’s Nigerian star Alex Iwobi calling him uncharitable names. The actress wrote ‘hahaha’, almost in tacit approval and she even shared the screenshot of the conversation with her Instagram followers.
All hell broke loose after that and the actress was accused of supporting racism and making objectionable remarks. Of course, Esha recognised her mistake and has apologised for the gaffe. She wrote a personal letter to the Nigerian footballer and admitted her mistake and took all her comments back.
In the letter Esha wrote, ''I am extremely sorry for my ignorant action last Friday. Being an ardent fan of many years, I was deeply engrossed and caught up in the game."
According to IANS, she said she "clearly did not realise the racial undertone" from her friend's message, which she had shared on Instagram last week.
"For this, I am deeply regretful. I cannot begin to imagine how much I have hurt your sentiments. Racism has absolutely no place in my heart, and I promise you, for whatever it's worth, going forward this will never happen again," the Jannat 2 actress said in her letter according to IANS.
The actress also wished Iwobi forgives for her "careless action".
Esha even wrote a letter to the Arsenal Football Club, wherein she wrote, "I hope the club can accept my humblest apology and give me the opportunity to make amends. I promise to be very responsible from here on."
