War has completed an incredible first week at the box office, collecting an estimated INR 27 crore on the seventh day of its release, bringing its total earnings to INR 206 crore. The action thriller film, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff in lead roles, released last Wednesday on 2nd October, and has broken several box office records since then. So far, it is the third highest grosser of 2019 after Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh and Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike. It is also the highest grosser for both Hrithik and Tiger, and has already crossed the lifetime collections of Hrithik's Krrish 3 and Tiger's Baaghi 2.
Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja and Dussehra holidays have worked in favour of the film. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film has also received a good response due to its impressive visuals and jaw-dropping action sequences, choreographed by international stunt directors. The film, which also features Vaani Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana in important roles, revolves around agent Khalid (Tiger Shroff) and his mission to hunt down his mentor Kabir (Hrithik Roshan).
Following the success of War, there is pressure on the makers of Baaghi 3 (starring Tiger) to match the quality of action sequences in their upcoming movie. Tiger became popular as an action hero with the Baaghi franchise and its third installment, directed by Ahmed Khan, is currently in the works. Commenting on the audience’s higher expectations from him, Tiger said in an interview, “It is a problem, no doubt. I don’t only have to compete with Mission Impossible and The Avengers but also with myself. I am expected to raise the level of action with every film. It is a challenge but a welcome challenge." Baaghi 3 also stars Riteish Deshmukh, and Shraddha Kapoor, and is scheduled to release on 6th March 2020.
