Dressed in a traditional beige anarkali, Vidya Balan was all about Bobby Jasoos as she met us in Dubai today (23 June) to promote her upcoming detective movie. In the film, she plays the eponymous private eye and the first thing we had to know was if Hyderabad (where Bobby Jasoos is set) is to it what Kolkata was to her super-hit Kahaani. Vidya told us that the city played an important part in the flick and that its many flavours had been brought out beautifully. "We haven't just explored the main landmarks but also the smallest bylanes of Hyderabad," she said, adding that it was producer Dia Mirza's idea. "Dia's from Hyderabad so she knows the city very well."
Sadly, Dia was unwell and couldn't make it to Dubai for the promotions (though she'd been scheduled to). However, co-producer and Dia's fiance Sahil Sangha did join Vidya in the UAE.
Dia and Vidya have known each other since their Parineeta days though they didn't have scenes together in the movie. "Dia's very caring, the kind of producer who'll ask you on a cold day if you want some warm soup," she said.
Moving on to detective matters, Vidya revealed that if she could spy on someone in real-life, it would be Amitabh Bachchan! "I want to know what he does in real life. Mr Bachchan is always so calm and composed, I'm curious about how he chills, what he eats and more." And there was a typical Vidya quote to pepper that bit. "Thank God I haven't been asked about spying on my hubby [Siddharth Roy Kapur], I'm tired of answering that!"
Talking about her Bobby Jasoos co-star Ali Fazal, Vidya admitted that while she had not seen any of his movies, she thought he was very talented. She continued cheekily, "It helps that he's very good looking! We share an interesting equation in the movie."
Does she think women make better private detectives compared to men because of their curiosity? "Curiosity is universal. I think women don't hide that they are curious, men do."
INFO: Bobby Jasoos releases in the UAE on 3 July 2014.
