Vidhu Vinod Chopra Hits Out At "Stars"
Says that some stars fail to realise that the script comes first
The year 2018 has seen a number of flops and bad films but the three Khans stand out in this list. The three Khans have given bad films and the latest entrant to this list is Zero, which is struggling to keep afloat at the box office.
While speaking to the press, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has hit out stars for whom scripts are created. According to Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the script should be created first and then one should think which star can fit into it.
“The first thing is, the script should be written devoid of big stars. The trouble is when you start thinking, ‘This is the story that I’m going to do for this guy.’ That is where you start making compromises which are the disaster that is hitting you all now, in your face,” he said.
Chopra was interacting with the press for the promotions of his film, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. He didn't name any particular actor and said that he is not referring to anybody in particular but addressing a bad trend that is affecting business.
“Because it is not the script, it becomes a vehicle for the star and when it becomes a vehicle, it ceases to be a script. My answer is to write a story, then look at the actors. I think all the so-called stars must realise that the script comes first,” Vidhu Vinod Chopra added.
Chopra then recalled an incident at the success party of Dangal where he insisted that Dangal would have done well even if it had Hrithik Roshan in it. He revealed that Aamir Khan called him after listening to his statement in the media.
"It's because of the script that the film (Dangal) has done well. Even if Hrithik was there in this film, it would have worked well but if made horribly then it wouldn't work at all. Aamir called me later and he was like yaar 'tu meri party mein meri baja raha hai' Now see what happened? Ask him (Aamir) only what happened. So what I said that day was true right?"
