Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film ‘Kalank’ is already one of the most awaited films of the upcoming weeks. Varun Dhawan will be appearing alongside Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit. His recent song ‘First Class’ has also been climbing the top charts.
Kalank, according to Karan Johar, was a film envisioned by his late father Yash Johar. The film was originally meant to star Shah Rukh Khan and Sridevi but as time and circumstance should have it, the film now stars Varun and Alia in key roles. From the looks of its trailer and BTS, the film is set in the 1940s in the town of ‘Husnabad’.
In this massive period piece, 700 laborers worked for three months to create this vision. The sets include 60 lightmen, 300 extras and 500 dancers. Cinematographer Binod Pradhan said that the film is the largest set he’s worked on. ‘It’s even bigger than Devdas!’ he said in the promotional video of the film. Kalank is directed by Abhishek Varman and is choreographed by Remo D’Souza. ‘Kalank is a film that you can only watch on the big screen,’ said Varun Dhawan.
The songs of Kalank are in keeping with the broody, dramatic nature of the film itself. The earlier song ‘Ghar More Pardesiya’ was slightly upbeat but had a dramatic twist to it.
However, First Class is an upbeat number that is very dance-worthy. Watch the video of First Class here.
Varun teamed up with dancers Melvin Louis and Harleen Sethi to dance on First Class and the video is, well, very first class! Watch.
