The Ministry of Education (MOE) in the UAE has announced the closure of all schools and colleges in the country for one month, starting Sunday, 8th March. The ministry took this decision in order to prevent further spread of the deadly coronavirus which has infected more than 90,000 people worldwide and 27 people in the UAE. Six new cases were recorded in the country, all connected to the UAE cycling tour. Following these developments, the Ministry of Education decided to close educational institutions. According to an official statement by MOE, the decision is a "preventive and precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and is in line with efforts and measures taken at the national level, aimed at reducing the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19)."
The ministry said this decision was in the interest of students and would help provide the highest standards of public safety in the educational community.
As part of the precautionary measures to reduce the possibility of transmission of #COVID19, ADEK announces the break for schools and higher education institutions starting next Sunday and over a period of 4 weeks.

The statement also said that spring vacation, which was scheduled for 29th March to 12th April, would be starting early for both private and public schools, colleges and universities. A sterilisation programme will be carried out at all educational facilities during the break.
During the last two weeks of the break, a distance learning programme will be implemented “ensuring the continuity of the educational process at home, without hampering in the number of school days."
The ministry has asked parents to ensure that students have a suitable environment, internet access and electronic devices at home, in order to be part of the self-learning programme and continue with their lessons at home. The interactive system will have a live streaming option through which teachers will be able to speak to students.
