TV actor Nitin Chauhaan reportedly died by suicide in his Mumbai home on Thursday. Chauhaan, who had been struggling with his career for the past 3-4 years, had been unable to secure work in the industry, adding significant strain to his life, according to statements made by his wife. The actor, who lived with his wife and young daughter, attempted to offset his lack of acting roles by starting an ice cream business. However, the venture proved unsuccessful, further compounding his struggles.
According to senior inspector Ajay Afle from the Dindoshi police station, Chauhaan had been suffering from depression, likely exacerbated by his ongoing lack of work and the financial strain of his failed business. “During the preliminary inquiry, we learnt that Nitin Chauhan was not getting work in the industry for the past few years and was in depression because of this,” Afle shared.
On Thursday evening, Nitin Chauhaan’s wife and daughter had gone to the park within their housing society. When they returned, they found the apartment door locked from the inside, raising her concern. After using a spare key to open the door, she discovered it had also been latched. With urgency, she broke the door open and was devastated to find Chauhaan hanging from the ceiling fan.
Nitin Chauhaan’s wife acted swiftly, bringing him down and attempting CPR before calling for an ambulance, but tragically, her efforts were in vain. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
The Dindoshi police have registered a case of accidental death, and an investigation is ongoing. An autopsy report is awaited to confirm further details surrounding his death.
Nitin Chauhaan’s passing serves as a sombre reminder of the mental health challenges many face in the high-stakes entertainment industry. His family, friends, and fans mourn the loss of a talented actor whose potential was cut short.
