The curious case of Juhi Chawla and the incredibly stupid 5-G lawsuit

If you’re as clueless as me about Juhi Chawla’s plea, let me break it down for you in the simple terms.

Two things that one never expects to read in the same line? Juhi Chawla and 5-G

Well, not that because tech and entertainment don’t go well together but you can’t imagine an actress you’ve grown up watching on the big-screen fighting for the ban of 5G.

Juhi Chawla

In a totally unrelated (yet important) note, as I write this story right now, there are 2.84Cr+ active cases of Covid-19 in India.  These are not just stats, these are people in the hospitals, people at home checking their oxy-meter every second to make sure their oxygen remains stable and people around them who are constantly praying for their recovery. So, amidst the chaos, why is a 5-g lawsuit important?

If you’re as clueless as me about Juhi Chawla’s plea, let me break it down for you in the simplest terms- in her petition, she wants to get a clarity on how safe 5G technology is for humans, animals, birds and other beings on the planet. She also seeks clarity whether India really needs it right now.

The Baazigar actress filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against the telecom technology upgradation, trial runs for which have started in India now.

While the fifth-generation of wireless networks for mobile broadband, or what is commonly referred to as 5G, promises ultra-fast connectivity and low-latency among its other benefits, there has been a constant uproar about the fears over health concerns. You know what’s worse? There are some conspiracy theories that have linked it with coronavirus among other things.

Is there any logic or rhyme? Well, just like most of the things in India, this does not.

In her plea, she also mentioned that in April 2019, Brussels became the first major city in the world to halt any further steps in the 5G rollout on account of health hazards.

If there is any truth and logic behind Juhi’s plea, then why are people mocking her? Maybe it’s the timing of her plea. While SOS urging for Oxygen cylinders and ICU beds have reduced massively, we can’t deny the fact that there are far more burning issues in India that need immediate attention of the judiciary and government.

The time gap between Juhi Chawla’s plea and Delhi high court’s judgment was shorter than a blink of an eye.

On Wednesday, Delhi high court termed her plea  as ”defective”. That’s not all, to make sure she comes up next with a slightly more logical plea, Actress-environmentalist Juhi Chawla’s efforts against setting up of 5G wireless networks in the country were touted as a mode of garnering ”media publicity”.

While we will have to ask Juhi Chawla to solve the curious case, I feel like it’s time for all of us to play “Ghoonghat ki aad se Dilbar ka…” a popular Bollywood song from the actor’s 1993 movie Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, because why not!
