The weekend might be over and if you are still looking for an option to try out something new, don't worry! We just might have the place for you. Toplum is located in the heart of Dubai. Mirdiff City Centre plays host to this new eatery which offers Mediterranean cuisine. The first thing you'd notice about the well-lit place is its cosiness. When I was first asked to review the restaurant, I won't lie, I did check their menu out. Thinking it might be pretty ordinary, what I didn't comprehend was that I would be surprised by the second as I keep scrolling. Pumped up about what the place might offer, I checked out Toplum right after one workday.
What it Offers:
Toplum's menu comprises of breakfast, lunch and dinner. The eatery includes many options for each category. For breakfast, Toplum offers a variety of options to start your day, from flavoured yoghurts to a vast variety of eggs to waffles and french toasts. I reached around 7 pm so I opted for an early dinner. The manager of the restaurant Julia, greeted us and showed place to be seated. While we waited for our server to offer the menu, a bowl of flavoured popcorn was served. I asked the server to guide us through the menu.
For starters, we settled on Pearl Cous Cous Salad with Grilled Chicken, Sweet Potato Crisps served with Lebneh and Crispy Calamari with Lemon Aioli.
While the calamari was served piping hot, it lacked the crispiness it promised. The batter was a tad too thick that engulfed the squid.
However, the pearl couscous salad was a winner. The salad was served with a perfectly grilled chicken breast, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. The presentation of the salad definitely won brownie points! The dressing was served in a bottle that could be poured over. Why I particularly like this? Since I could pour it right before having the salad.

The sweet potato crisps were another hit! The chips were crisps and the parmesan on top elevated the flavour. The labneh served on the side was the perfect dip.
Toplum's menu includes a vast range of mains. From Risotto to flatbreads, to steaks and pasta, it offered a range of dishes - catering to everyone. I asked Julia to help us with deciding the main, and after much discussion, we settled on Cacio E Pepe, Chicken Risotto, Grilled Salmon and Picanha Steak. What I liked about Toplum and its prompt serving is that the food came at the same time and was again served piping hot.
Cacio E Pepe
The Cacio E Pepe was pasta served in a cashew sauce. The subtle flavours won the table. Chicken Risotto, lacked seasoning a bit. I felt it could do a bit more salt. However, it was creamy and perfectly cooked. The chicken complimented the whole dish.
Next, we tried the grilled salmon. The salmon was well seasoned and flaky. However, the skin wasn't as crisp as I had hoped it would be. The sides served with salmon were delicious! I could go on for days about the sauce served with the dish. The beans were cooked to perfection. This was a well-thought-out dish.
Yes, we saved the best for last! Picanha Steak was the clear winner. The Wagyu Rump Cap was served with the inhouse Camen sauce and we took a side order of Chilli Broccolini. The beef was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and melted in the mouth. The sauce was spicy but not hot. It complimented the meat deliciously. The broccolini was somewhat needed to cut the creaminess of the beef and sauce. I'm definitely ordering this again the next time I visit!
By the end of mains, I was pretty stuffed but when you visit Toplum, you know you cannot leave without the dessert. A counter at the restaurant is adorned with scrumptious croissants, cakes and muffins. On the menu, there are more options for the foodies to choose from. Julia recommended their famous Salted Caramel Pavlova and we decided to give it a try. And boy, are we glad we did!
Salted Caramel Pavlova
The Salted Caramel Pavlova ticked all the right boxes! The crunchy meringue was encasing a softer texture. Topped with whipped cream and salted caramel, the pavlova also had a hazelnut ice cream. the saltiness of the caramel cut through the sweetness and richness of the cream. Salted Caramel Pavlova was the winner of the night!
Toplum offers a variety of dished for everyone. The restaurant should definitely be in your list if you are looking for a casual date night. The prices vary from Dhs 35 for starters and Dhs 52 for mains and go up to Dhs 250.
