At such a young age, you have been extremely successful in your ventures. Can you tell us about the challenges you faced professionally?
Challenges were indeed a part and parcel of my daily life. At times people took undue advantage and assumed that age and experience ?would outweigh my capability to perform. Each day I fought harder to prove my capability and now it seems no challenge in business is too big! Having a degree does not alwaysguaranteeyou success; strong will and determination to excel in your work are what determine how far you go in life. To quote John Calvin Coolidge, former President of the United States, "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. You have to set a goal and then work really hard to obtain it. You have to press on".
Did you always want to become a businessman or did you have other plans?
Frankly, getting into business was never on the agenda. I did not have an engineering background but the influence of my father, uncle and brothers made me explore a different side to me which I myself wasn't aware of. And I haven't looked back ever since. We are basically in the field of setting up industrialturnkey projects related to food and beverages, water treatment plants and using our LED lighting technology to make the UAE an eco-friendly country. The services we offer will also save electricity bills by almost 65 per cent which will be a tremendous feat to achieve for society and consumers alike.
How difficult is it to create a niche for yourself within a competitive market?
I feel competition often scares people into giving their best. However, I've never let the fear of competition hold me back. I always used that as a challenge to try and test my ability to perform even in adverse situations.
Who is your role model or biggest inspiration in your life?
My father is my biggest role model.
What is next step for Global Sterling Products Ltd and Nexus General Trading LLC?
There are a few things in the pipeline, but I am just waiting for the right time to implement them.
What advice would you give to an upcoming entrepreneur?
Any idea, thought or determination to do something big will take you to a phase where only sky is the limit. Never think that you can't perform. Believe in Almighty and your own self, and the rest shall be taken care off. Education is important, but an academic degree is not the only solution to everything. What counts is your ability and your determination to make the most of what you have. You must have a desire to reach your goal. ?Don't set low goals. Set objectives that will stretch you, that will lift you up and make you better. Having determination is what counts in this life.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Being married, having a settled and stable life, a loving and caring wife with two adorable children (laughs). Well, at least that's how I see my personal life in the next few years! As far as business goes, I dream of building an empire where people look up to and strive to emulate our success and achievements.
You travel quite often for work since you have business interests in many countries. Which city do you like the best and why?
Chandigarh. It's my hometown and despite visiting most countries across the world, I love going to Chandigarh the most. For me my roots, Indian culture and tradition play a pivotal role and perhaps that's the reason I am quite sentimental about this city. Unfortunately, I do not take too many holidays. However, I try to blend a bit of fun even when I travel for work. I am looking forward to give some more time to myself in the near future.
Apart from work, what are your other interests and hobbies?
I enjoy learning new things, keeping myself busy, travelling to exotic locations and picking up new hobbies along the way. I especially love anything to do with the arts, writing poetry as well as watching sitcoms. Whenever I get some free time, I love to draw and create new things. Another thing I am passionate about is cooking; I try my hand at whipping up a meal occasionally. At times, to ease my mind and soul I often perform volunteer services for the needy.
