The City Grill Ladies Night: A Unique African Themed Night
Swing to the African music and dig into some succulent meats at this ladies' night venue
There are so many elements of surprise here, you have to experience it to believe it. We are referring to the newly-launched Pink African Nights at The City Grill – a ladies night with a difference. First, it’s on a Sunday. Yes, so you can literally begin partying on the first day of the week – perfect to get over your ‘weekend is over’ blues. Secondly, the menu is obviously meat-heavy (it’s a steakhouse!), so be prepared for a menu that may take you by surprise if you haven’t been too exposed to African flavours.
Having said that, we would definitely recommend The City Grill for a different kind of ladies’ night. The interiors are dark, sleek and refined, the artwork and the mood is rather intense so if you are looking for fun, light crazy night out with your gal pals, this might not be it. But if you are looking for a more chic experience with great conversation and fabulous music and a certain amount of pizzazz, the Pink African Nights might just be your place to explore.
A word about the live entertainment that is top notch. Belting out retro and recent hits, the singer hits all the right notes as the sultry voice adds a touch of romance to the ambiance. The deal is even better – three complimentary drinks and an African themed set menu priced at Dhs 140. Not bad at all for a city that really doesn't boast of a good African cuisine restaurant. From among the Mushroom Soup, Waldorf Salad and the Chicken Liver, we settled for the last, to begin our meal with. And it proved to be the perfect choice. The mayonnaise chicken liver was smooth, creamy and had the distinct flavor of peri peri sauce. Almost comforting! The mains had Beef Spare Rips, Baby Chicken and Angus Beef Burger – frankly, not very tempting in terms of choices but the ribs we ordered were delicious. Juicy and succulent, enough to pique our curiousity about the rest of the steak menu (hopefully next time!).Thankfully, the a la carte menu is available for those who love the classics. The profiterole that came next as dessert proved to be just the decadent sweet treat.
So what’s great about this night? Definitely, the fact that it’s unique and doesn’t stick to the cookie-cutter approach to ladies nights – i.e a few free drinks and bar bites with loud music. We see it as more of a stylish, sophisticated evening for those with a discerning taste for something special. Try it out!
