Your aesthetic is quintessentially feminine and romantic. Where does this step from? What has been your muse in design?
My mother always inspired me as she was such a well-dressed and confident woman, who always dressed in the most attractive pieces. She taught me that every day is worth dressing up for. This is why I want to continue designing pieces for women to look their best.
What do you think it is about Dubai that there is this amazing synergy between the art and fashion worlds?
When compared to the rest of the world, Dubai is a very young city with endless possibilities. There is a strong east-meets-west ideal in Dubai, with its rich cultural roots paired with the diverse communities that reside here. This leaves so much room for creativity and experimentation between the fashion and art worlds since you can draw inspiration from so many facets of life in Dubai.
What has been the most significant moment in your career?
The most significant moment in my career was opening my office and atelier. It is one thing to dream about my brand and design something small for myself, but to have a physical place where I can grow as a designer and build my business makes all the difference. The growth of my atelier sparked the need for a new space, which is why I am so excited to have relocated to Dubai’s creative hub, Dubai Design District.
I attended your last show at FFWD and was blown away. How do you create and recreate eveningwear and stay inspired season after season?
I never stop the creative process. I am always imagining and sketching designs that I think will be a great addition to the next season. As soon as I have an idea, I think about how I would look and feel wearing the piece. Imagining myself in my collections really help me stay connected to my customers because I know if I love the piece and believe in it, it will resonate with the KF woman.
What are your favorite pieces in the Amore collection?
It’s really hard to choose favorite pieces because the whole collection is part of me. I did however love playing with unexpected fabrics like the peach, olive, and off-white ultra-suede and the stunning liquid gold satin. One of my favorite styles that I bring back each season is the dress coat which I did this season in sportier more masculine styles like the bomber and biker inspired pieces.
You’ve expanded your brand beyond fashion. What do you have planned for future?
Accessories or beauty lines or interiors maybe? I’m very excited to see what the future holds for the Kristina Fidelskaya brand. Fragrance is something that I would love to create as a compliment to my collections that I am working on this year. We are always building on ways in which KF can evolve in other areas but still with the strong fashion focus. Collaborations are also in discussion for opportunities outside of my ready-to-wear line.
