Tanhaji Box Office: Ajay Devgn-starrer No Longer in Competition with any Film, Continues to Reign over Cinemas

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior ruled the box office on Friday, minting a cumulative of INR128.21 crore. Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak, however, witnessed a major decline in footfall

It has been more than a week since two highly anticipated Bollywood films of 2020 – Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Chhapaak hit cinema screens. While earlier box office predictions were in favour of the latter, B-town beauty Deepika Padukone’s fans have been left disappointed to say the least. The Ajay Devgn-starrer on the other hand continues to make waves at the domestic box office. As both films entered their second week on Friday, Tanhaji ruled ticket windows, minting a cumulative of INR128.21 crore. The Meghna Gulzar directorial, however, witnessed a major decline in footfall, raking in a total of INR29.13 crore.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is reported to have collected an estimated INR9.5 crore on the eighth day of release (Friday). While it is a 15% drop from Thursday’s collections as per the report, the earnings are impressive for the second Friday. Chhapaak earned an estimated INR75 lakh on Friday, the report added. The film traces the journey of acid attack survivor Malti (Deepika) and is loosely based on the life of acid attack victim Laxmi Agarwal.

Tanhaji collected INR11.23 crore on its seventh day (Thursday). The first week total of the film stood at INR118.91 crore. Sharing the day-to-day collections of the film, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “Tanhaji conquers BO... Incredible trending: solid weekend, smashing weekdays... Exceptional in Maharashtra... Will dominate in Week 2... Fri 15.10 cr, Sat 20.57 cr, Sun 26.26 cr, Mon 13.75 cr, Tue 15.28 cr, Wed 16.72 cr, Thu 11.23 cr. Total: Rs 118.91 cr. India biz. SMASH-HIT.” Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is likely to cross the INR150 mark soon. Do you think Deepika’s Chhapaak still has a chance to work its magic at the box office? We wonder where it went wrong considering its strong storyline and star-studded cast. What do you think? Share it in the comments below.
