After leaking Hrithik Roshan’s recent release, blockbuster Super 30, piracy website Tamilrockers has also leaked the Tamil-language Gorilla movie online. The public torrent website -- which was initially a “bootleg recording network” launched in 2011 -- uploads pirated versions of Tamil movies as well as movies in Hindi, English, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and other languages. Tamilrockers keeps changing the domain extension in order to keep running the site illegally, despite Delhi high court orders on blocking piracy hubs. Users also access the site via proxy servers in order to watch a large number of pirated films. Recent movies which were uploaded by Tamilrockers include Bharat, Kabir Singh, Article 15, Avengers Endgame and MIB: International.

The Jiiva-starrer Gorilla -- which is a heist comedy about a chimpanzee and a group of friends trying to rob a bank -- is the latest piracy victim of Tamilrockers. The film, which hit the screens on 11th July, has been written and directed by Don Shandy. It also stars Shalini Pandey, Yogi Babu, Radha Ravi, Sathish, Rajendran, and Ramdoss.

The movie has not received a positive response from some critics, who have disapproved the plot, the script and body-shaming jokes included in the movie. However, some reviewers have appreciated the movie. One film reviewer wrote  in the Firstpost: "The highlight of Gorilla as hyped by the makers in the promotional campaign is Kong, the trained chimpanzee. And to a large extent, Kong remains the saving grace of an otherwise run-of-the mill Kollywood entertainer from writer-director Don Sandy." Meanwhile, a review in the Times of India said: “It would be easy to dismiss Gorilla as a silly, far-fetched film, but the fact is that the film works. The chief reason for this is that the director, Don Sandy, understands the silliness and gets the cast and crew to tag along for this fun ride.”
