Sushmita Sen is among the world’s most admired women, as per a recently released list by YouGov. She inspired millions of young girls after winning Miss Universe back in 1994 and also earned the respect of many after adopting a baby girl at the age of 24. After adopting Renee in the year 2000, Sushmita went on to adopt another baby girl, Alisah in 2010. It has been 20 years since the Biwi No. 1 actress made the decision to adopt and now she looks back at her journey. At a recent event, Sushmita Sen called it the best and wisest decision of her life.
The event, which took place in Hyderabad, saw Sushmita open up on motherhood. Being a doting mother to both her daughters, the actress said that while she may not be their biological daughters, she has given birth to them from the heart.
"In the natural birth, the mother and the child connect through the umbilical cord but in adoption, the mother and the child are connected by this higher power, a connection that you cannot cut off,” she said. She then went on to add that she has experienced it not once, but twice. “I have had the privilege of experiencing it twice. To become a mother who has given birth from the heart. I have not missed a day of feeling the joy of motherhood," Sushmita Sen said.
The actress and former Miss Universe went on to say that she is extremely proud of herself for making the decision of adopting a child at the age of 24 as it stabilised her life."The wisest decision I made at the age of 24 was to become a mother. It stabilised my life. People think it was a great act of charity and wonderful action but it was self-preservation. It was me protecting myself," added the actress.
Sushmita Sen, together with boyfriend Rohman Shawl and her two daughters recently vacationed in Armenia from where she shared glimpses of their trip with her fans on social media. Rohman Shawl is said to share a close bond with both the girls.
