Star Students of Bollywood
They may all eventually follow in the footsteps of their famous parents but currently our stars’ children are busy at school. Masala! gives a peek into the lives of star kids
Gone are the days when just a powerful surname was all that mattered. Stars today understand that if their kids have to make it in Bollywood or any other field, they have to be well-educated and groomed from the beginning. It’s not surprising that they spare no expense to ensure that their children get the best of education and facilities, yet remain grounded and real to face the challenges that life has to offer. We take a look at a few star parents and reveal all that they do for their kids – who may well become future superstars themselves!
SHAH RUKH & GAURI KHAN
Star Kids: Aryan (17), Suhana (14) and Abram (1)
Aryan studies at Seven Oaks School, an International Baccalaureate school close to Central London. Sources say Shah Rukh wanted to keep his teenager away from the glare of the media so that he could concentrate on his education. Hence Aryan was moved to London from the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai where he used to study. Aryan is reportedly very interested in sports and has a black belt in Taekwondo. He won the Maharashtra Taekwondo competition in 2010.
Suhana still studies at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. A class 7 student, she loves sports like her brother. Suhana also won a gold medal at the Maharashtra Taekwondo competition. She is also an ace football player and the team she captained won the U-14 girls tournament. Suhana will soon join her brother’s school in London after a few years. Determined to be an actor like her father, Suhana plans to study acting and filmmaking in America.
Just a year old, Shah Rukh and Gauri keep him away from the limelight. Shah Rukh says, “I long to take him out and Gauri tells me to…but I don’t want someone taking a picture of him yet. One day, when he’s grown up enough, he’ll leave the house and go out.”
The Khans as Parents
Shah Rukh and Gauri are both hands-on parents. They are often seen accompanying their kids to various school-related events. Shah Rukh posts pictures of his kids on social media platforms and even drops Suhana to school at times. Like a doting father, he doesn’t shy away from showing off his kids’ achievements, whether it’s a win at a football match or a picture of them enjoying a holiday. Suhana also accompanies her dad to IPL matches to cheer their team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The parents make sure that most of their kids’ wishes are fulfilled as much as possible. For instance, when Suhana wanted to meet Lady Gaga, Shah Rukh spared no efforts to make it a reality and the international star hobnobbed with the Khans at Mannat! Similarly, his ambitious film Ra.One was conceived essentially for his children who wanted to see him as a superhero.
TWINKLE KHANNA & AKSHAY KUMAR
Star Kids: Aarav (12) and Nitara (2)
Aarav studies at the Ecole Mondiale World School in Mumbai. Apart from academics, Aarav is interested in martial arts like his father; he has a brown belt in Judo and has won medals in Karate competitions. Aarav also won the Green Globe for Outstanding Contribution by a Child. He was noted as being the youngest person to have sponsored a village under the “Light a Billion Lives” campaign where he ensured an entire village got electricity.
Nitara is too young to join school and her parents will put her in play school after a year or so.
The Kumars as Parents
Akshay wants Aarav to be interested in martial arts and other adventure activities. He’s always teaching Aarav how to roller-blade or play volley ball. Nitara, the newest addition to the family keeps both of them pretty busy. Whenever Twinkle wants some time off, it’s Akshay who babysits Aarav and Nitara by taking them along on his shoots or holidays. Both Twinkle and Akshay try to keep their children away from the limelight as much as possible. Like Akki says, “I want Aarav to understand the value of money – it’s not like I can’t afford to give him the things he wants but I don’t give into everything he demands.”
AAMIR KHAN, REENA DUTTA & KIRAN RAO
Star Kids: Junaid (22), Ira (17) and Azad Rao-Khan (2)
After graduating from HR College in Mumbai, Junaid is currently assisting director Rajkumar Hirani in PK that stars his dad Aamir and Anushka Sharma. Junaid was also the president of the Rotract Club in his college. Recently, he organised a celebrity cricket match with Salman Khan and Rani Mukerji to raise funds for the physically challenged. He himself is a good cricket player!
A student of Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Ira is a bright student and scored 89 per cent in Class X. She also organised a celebrity football match featuring stars like dad Aamir, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan. The fund-raiser was organised to help build a proper shelter for stray animals. Besides, Ira is a good football player herself.
Azad Rao Khan
Azad attends a pre-school.
The Khans as Parents
After Aamir and Reena’s divorce in 2002, Reena got the custody of Ira and Junaid but Aamir would meet the kids thrice a week. Both of them also spent holidays with their kids. Reena ensured that her children remained very grounded while Aamir took his responsibility towards his kids seriously. However, he always gives full credit for their upbringing to Reena. Aamir’s second wife, Kiran also gets along well with Ira, Junaid and Reena. Aamir and Reena’s kids are rarely seen partying or sporting expensive designer wear for events. Aamir is equally involved in little Azad’s upbringing and is known to take care of him while Kiran takes breaks with her girl pals.
KAJOL & AJAY DEVGN
Star Kids: Nysa (11) and Yug (4)
Nysa is a class six student at the Ecole Mondiale World School in Mumbai. She is an avid reader and likes to go swimming. Nysa wants to be an actress like her mother when she grows up. In fact, Kajol states that Nysa is quite like her!
Yug attends a local play school right now. He is a huge fan of his dad. Right now, he’s thrilled about the song Ata majhi satakli from Singham Returns and sings it over and over again!
The Devgns as Parents
Kajol took a break from her thriving career to start a family. She dotes on her kids and is seen attending meetings at Nysa’s school or taking Nysa and Yug for various classes. Ajay, despite his busy schedule makes time for his children. In fact, when Kajol was pregnant with Yug, Ajay made sure he was the one taking Nysa for all her outings and even went on a 10-day holiday with her for some father-daughter bonding time. In fact, Ajay admits that one of his most favourite activities is reading to Nysa. Both Kajol and Ajay like to keep their kids as normal as possible. As Ajay says, “I don’t encourage them too much to pick up stuff from my films. They need to be educated first.”
AISHWARYA RAI & ABHISHEK BACHCHAN
Star Kid: Aaradhya (2)
Aaradhya, who turns three this November, is still enjoying the freedom of running around the Bachchan bungalow, Jalsa! Her parents are now hunting for a play school for the little one. Apparently, Beti B is tech savvy and easily grasps things. Let’s see which play school she will choose!
The Bachchans as Parents
After Aaradhya’s birth, Aishwarya made her child her topmost priority. Even though she had help to raise her daughter, Ash would do simply everything for Aaradhya from changing her nappies to staying up with her at night. Abhishek also tried to be a hands-on parent but he jokes, “My wife was always checking if I got it right, even while holding our daughter! She is an absolutely devoted mother…” Now that she’s grown a little, Ash tags Aaradhya along whenever she attends important events. The most famous T’town kid is definitely the apple of daddy Abhishek’s eye too. “I sometimes have to tear myself away from her to attend shooting,” says Abhishek. Apparently, Aaradhya misses him a lot when he’s away so Abhishek prefers to video call her while he is travelling so that she can see him!
