Bollywood kids have it easy. All they need to do if they wish to enter films is to be seen at the right places. And voilà! A film offer lands in their kitty. The latest star-kid whose debut is being talked about even before she has signed on the dotted line is Jhanvi Kapoor, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s pretty 17-year-old daughter who, reports say, will be launched by none other than Karan Johar!
Mid-Day recently reported that Karan may sign her under his banner probably with newcomers and that Jhanvi was going through the usual drill that a Bollywood debut demands including diction and dance classes. In fact, stories of Jhanvi’s big debut have been doing the rounds for a while now. Apparently, she has gotten offers from the south as well opposite Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan and Nagarjuna’s son Naga Chaitanya. Considering Sri has acted with both Chiranjeevi and Nag, she has an easy entry into Tollywood. Of course, dad Boney too can make a film for her but being launched by Karan Johar has a charm of its own!
Incidentally, it’s also being said that Sridevi is not too happy about Jhanvi joining films; she wants her to complete her education first. But if anyone has laid the groundwork for Jhanvi’s Bollywood debut, it’s Sri herself. In the last couple of years the English Vinglish actress has rarely been seen without her daughter. From premieres and fashion nights to parties, Jhanvi has been her constant arm-candy. Sri also spoke about how she sought Jhanvi’s opinion on fashion and films!
The teenager herself comes across as very self-assured; she carries herself excellently on the red carpet and is certainly one of the most photographed star-kids on the block. So we really wonder why Sri is objecting. Sri’s concerns are perhaps understandable. Top divas of the past – be it Hema Malini or Amrita Singh – are protective of their daughters. Hema reportedly wasn’t too thrilled with Esha’s career choice but supported her at every step. Similarly, Amrita Singh allowed Sara to do a photo-shoot for a magazine but ensured that she hasn’t been seen too much in public ever since. The actresses probably know what a difficult life it is out there and would like to prevent their daughters from going through tough times.
But Jhanvi seems to have all the credentials – fashion savvy, the right lineage and the connections. Bollywood would only be too happy to lay the red carpet for her. So do we hear an announcement soon?
