Restaurants don’t just have the responsibility of meeting the expectations of clients with regard to the food being served to them. A whole lot of other factors also contribute to their reputation including customer service, politeness of the staff and a hygienic environment. While most eateries live up to their name and become the most popular ones around town, there are others that fail to garner enough footfall. One such example is that of the New Delhi-based resto China Fare. Attracting foodies from across the Indian capital every day, it has made a name in the culinary circles for its delicious food.
However, an alleged encounter faced by a leading journalist at the restaurant has led to an outrage on social media, resulting in many others coming out to express their support for him and boycotting China Fare. Indian columnist Dushyant took to Twitter on Wednesday to share his disheartening experience with his followers on the micro-blogging site. “I took a poor child inside this restaurant at Khan Market – the manager – ‘Veenu’ refused to let us sit. Later, he said customers have problems. The sole couple sitting there said they didn’t have a problem. But the chap refused to relent,” penned a furious Dushyant, alongside a picture of the restaurant’s exterior.

He then posted a video in which he can be seen in a heated argument with the waiter. Dushyant captioned it, “This is the video of him later saying that he doesn’t have a problem, his customers do.” In the clip, Dushyant is seen asking ‘Veenu’ why the poor child was not allowed to enter the eatery and dine with him. To this, the staff member replied saying “It’s not me. It’s the customers who have a problem.” When Dushyant approached the unknown couple that was eating in the restaurant and asked them if they have a problem with the poor boy coming inside, both of them were quick to say “No”. The waiter then clarified that he does not have a problem either but the manager/owner would.

Many came to Dushyant's side and expressed their disappointment over the reported incident. “Writing a negative review after seeing the tweet about them refusing paid seat and food to a poor kid. These suckers better apologise and bring a group of poor kids to treat for free. Doing on all other review sites too,” wrote one user.

Another journo Nidhi Razdan added, “Shame on China Fare. I’ll never eat there.”

One more user commented, “Used to be a favourite until now. Never eating there again.”
