The Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Marjaavaan had had a steady run at the box office. It took off to a decent start, raking in INR7.03 crore. Having hit cinema screens on November 15, the project which also sees Tara Sutaria and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles, earned an estimate of INR10.18 crore on its first Sunday. While this figure marked high hopes for the future business of the film, the numbers faced a decline after the first weekend but still managed to remain steady during the week. After a week of its run in theatres, Marjaavaan’s box office collection stood between INR4 and INR5 crore.
The Milap Zaveri directorial witnessed a 20% drop in collections as it entered its second week at the box office. While it garnered somewhere around INR36.75 crore in its first week, this was followed by an added INR1 crore, INR1.40 crore and INR2 crore on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Monday, November 25 put the second-week collections to a roundabout figure of INR5.20 crore. Currently standing at INR42.35 crore, Marjaavan has still not crossed the INR50 crore mark. Many factors have come into play affecting its forecasted box office collection. Firstly, it battles tough competition with Ayushmann Khurrana’s INR100-crore club film Bala. Secondly, it is not being shown on a large number of screens.
And last but not the least, the revenge drama has fallen prey to the notorious piracy website, Tamilrockers. The development is a major blow for the film’s cast and crew, considering it makes its entry to the INR50 crore club even tough and the INR100 crore, impossible. Moreover, Marjaavaan's production budget is around INR70 crore which is one of the largest budgets for Bollywood this year. In light of this, it seems highly doubtful that the producers will be making much profit following the leak of the film by the nuisance site. Tamilrockers has been known for leaking many Bollywood and Hollywood projects earlier too.
