For the first time in about a decade, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan will be staying away from the big screen for one whole year. Yes, 2019 will be that rare year when two of the biggest Khans won’t have a single release.
Aamir, whose last release was the big flop, Thugs of Hindostan, is busy with Mahabharata, which is expected to release in the form of a seven-part web-series. The web-series will be over in 2019. However, it is not abnormal for Aamir to keep away from the silver screen for long periods of time. He has done it before also.
However, after a long hiatus, Shah Rukh Khan will be staying away from the screen in an entire year. According to reports, SRK, who was all set to play India’s first astronaut Rakesh Sharma in a biopic, has now opted out of it. As per reports, he is now keen to act in Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 because he wants to concentrate on commercially safe films which will re-establish him at the box office.
However, Don 3 hasn't got a proper release date in 2019 as all the dates are pre-booked by big releases. The big holidays of Eid, Diwali and Christmas are already booked for the release of Bharat, Housefull 4 and Brahmastra, respectively. "Don 3 cannot release in 2019 because there's simply no date for it. All the dates are booked. We can look at Christmas 2020. But that will be too late. Let's see what dates the team can arrive at," said a source saying that 2019 dates are choc-a-bloc for Bollywood screens.
The year 2018 was a nightmare for the Khans of Bollywood. SRK’s Zero turned out to be a box-office disaster with about Rs 90 crore as the collection, Salman’s Race 3 which earned a little over Rs 165 crore, was declared a flop. Aamir’s Thugs of Hindostan barely crossed the Rs 150 crore-mark and was a flop too.
