A few years ago, Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch was killed by her brother sending shockwaves in the subcontinent. The episode also brought to light the horrendous honour killings still prevalent in parts of Pakistani society.
Now, in a similar incident of violence against female artistes, actress and singer Reshma, best known for her Pashto songs and her performance in the famous drama Zhobal Goluna has been shot dead allegedly by her husband in Nowshera Kalan area.
According to a report in NDTV, Reshma was the fourth wife of the suspect and used to live with her brother in the city’s Hakimabad area. The police told investigators that her husband had entered the house and started firing at his wife, following a domestic dispute. However, he managed to escape the scene. The authorities have started investigating the case and more leads are expected.
NDTV further reports that this is the 15th incident of violence against women in showbiz in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. Earlier this year, stage actress Sunbul was shot dead in February after she allegedly refused to accompany the accused to a private party.
