Reputed TV actor Karan Oberoi who was seen in soaps like Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahi was arrested by Mumbai Police on charges of raping his former girlfriend, in a scandal that has shocked Bollywood. The actor was also charged of recording a video clip of the victim and then blackmailing her. A court in Mumbai has already sent Karan Oberoi into police custody for interrogation till May 9 after which the findings will be presented before the court.

However, it looks like there is more than what meets the eye. Karan Oberoi's lawyer has said that he is being framed and that he is a victim of extortion. According to a report in DNA, Oberoi and the victim were in touch since October 2016 and the duo started chatting over 'Tinder', a popular mobile application meant for dating.

Oberoi's advocate, while seeking bail for him at the magistrate’s court told the judge that it was the woman who approached Oberoi through the said dating app so that a conversation could be initiated. "Both of them initially had a casual chat but later, the woman started pressing Oberoi for various reasons. In order to extort money from him, she threatened to lodge a police complaint against him to defame him. When he refused to comply, the woman approached the police and registered a case on the basis of baseless allegations after which Oberoi too approached the police and gave his statement," argued Oberoi's advocate.

Several other reports have also quoted that Oberoi and the victim were in a relationship earlier before they acrimoniously broke up. Karan's bail application will again come up after the police custody gets over on May 9, 2019.

The actor started his TV journey with Mahesh Bhatt's Swabhimaan, where he played Bobby and went on to star in shows like Saaya, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Inside Edge, among others. He was also a member of a Hindi boy band "A Band of Boys", which was formed in 2001 and appeared in several advertising campaigns.
