Pakistani actor Fawad Khan has been booked for an alleged grave offence but what’s the story? Reportedly the actor’s wife, Sadaf refused polio vaccination drops to be administered to their children when the polio team came visiting. The health workers were also harassed by the actor’s driver, according to news reports. The police registered complaints against six people in Faisal Town, Lahore, including Fawad Khan since the house is in his name.
Clarifying the rumours, Fawad Khan’s team issued a special press release saying that the actor was not even present in Pakistan, he is in the United States.
Statement from Fawad Khan’s team: Neither of the parents were at home at the time of the visit. Khan has been out of the country since Feb.13 and is currently in the United States. “Fawad reserves the right for legal redress including damages caused by the event.”— Benazir Shah (@Benazir_Shah) February 20, 2019
Polio is a serious health crisis in Pakistan. After eight years, a polio case was reported in Lahore, according to Babar bin Atta, focal person to Prime Minister Imran Khan on polio eradication. Talking about this particular instance to a television channel, he said that Fawad’s wife, Sadaf, claimed that their daughter had already been immunised in the UK. However, bin Atta clarified that the oral polio vaccine, administered in Pakistan to children, is the only vaccine in the world that could protect kids against the wild poliovirus.
Fawad’s child had apparently been vaccinated by injection in the UK which would not have protected her from the virus that exists in Pakistan that, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, is among the only three countries in the world where polio still exists. Pakistan has announced a polio emergency and one of the current government’s top initiatives is to eradicate the disease immediately.
Fawad was recently in Dubai for the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League after which he went to Washington DC for an event.
The story is developing and we have to see what his family now responds with.
