What happens when two stylish, empowered and creative women – one an Emirati entrepreneur and patron of the arts, and the other, a renowned fashion commentator and journalist – join hands to create a unique space for shoppers with discerning taste? The answer lies in two words: Shiffa Curated.  The boutique, the ethos of which is based on beautiful design and one-of-a-kind pieces, is a labour of love of Dr Lamees Hamdan (founder of the natural beauty company, Shiffa Beauty, art connoisseur and promoter) and Sujata Assomull (founding editor of Harper’s Bazaar India who has also worked at ELLE India, Indian Express, Verve, Khaleej Times and has been the communications director of Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Jimmy Choo in India). Each of them brings her distinctive sensibilities to the space which lends it a very special flavour.

What makes this venture different from other boutiques is that the collections are dynamic and personally sourced, with new brands, artisanal labels and concepts generating an engaging annual calendar to surprise shoppers. Thus, every visit to the store will result in new discoveries – from kaftans to fine jewellery, objets d’ art and décor pieces to the latest in natural skin care.

What we love about Shiffa Curated are the brands that are a curious mix of East, West and Middle East. From regional debutants such as D’Ascoli and Mumbai’s very own Anita Dongre and Abraham & Thakore to home grown labels like Montroi Nadine Kanso’s Nadine Kanso’s Bil Arabi and L’Atelier Nawbar amongst others, there is a twist and surprise at every shelf. The crown jewel being the Shiffa Curated bespoke line of jewellery, homewares and gifts. 

Dr Lamees and Sujata have a great synergy which works well.  “As a shopper, I was not happy with the current state of retail. I want to go somewhere and truly experience something unique – under one roof – that covered my interests. While I love the convenience of online shopping, I still enjoy the physical touch of retail – feeling and trying on luxurious products, and this is where Shiffa Curated will excel,” says Dr Lamees while Sujata adds, “It struck me when I moved to Dubai, we have all the big international brands available, but no space that looks at special and unique artisanal labels in design, fashion and beauty. The dynamic nature of the store and our format mean we will always have something new.”
