Sharjah to Host Chechen Heritage Week Highlighting Chechnya’s Culture and Traditions

Sharjah’s Chechen Heritage Week will be held at the Cultural Heritage Centre - Al Bait Al Gharbi from Sunday to Thursday, 19th-23rd January

The emirate of Sharjah is all set to host Chechen Heritage Week from Sunday, 19th January to Thursday, 23rd January. This programme, which is part of the World Heritage Week and organised by the Republic of Chechen, has been launched under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. It is part of the activities of Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) which is showcasing the heritage of different nations and encouraging cultural exchange between the UAE and other nations. Chairman SIH, Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam said the event aims to showcase Chechnya’s culture and heritage. 

"We are extremely delighted to begin this year by hosting the Republic of Chechen, popularly known for its traditional folktales, vast history and incredibly diverse culture. Throughout the five-day event, our goal is to provide visitors with a glimpse into everything that forms the essence of the country and helps them embark on a journey to experience the beauty of their culture and heritage," he added. 

The event will take place between 5:30 pm to 10 pm during the week at the Cultural Heritage Centre - Al Bait Al Gharbi. It will include exhibitions which will present

Chechnya’s traditional artefacts and garments, and showcase its music, folklore, etc. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the authentic local cuisine and learn how to sculpt on wood and make pieces of art. They can attend a lecture, titled Culture, customs and traditions of the Chechen people, on 20th January, and another, titled History of arts and crafts of the Chechen Republic, on 22nd January. On the last day, guests will be able to attend the Heritage Exhibition of the Republic of Chechen and Traditional Arts (Ansambl Nokhcho) at Al Hisn in Khor Fakkan City.
