Shahid Kapoor, who is set to appear as lead character in his next film project Kabir Singh as an “angry young man”, went in drastic weight oscillations during the shoot, he reveals in a recent interview. The role, which will see him in two different looks, one as a college boy and a puffed up guy required Shahid Kapoor to tweak his diet completely. The fitness freak that Shahid Kapoor is, initially had to gain around 8kg weight to look bloated, destroyed and out of shape as much as possible to essay the role of functioning alcoholic.
His fitness trainer Sameer Jaura, who also helped him get into Warrior’s king body for Padmaavat, helped him transform for the role. The actor had to eat a lot to gain weight but he says that though many would enjoy eating without any restrictions, he didn't like it much. The actor had niggling fear of not looking the same fittest version of himself after such unreal weight transformation.
After drastic weight gain, Shahid Kapoor altered his diet and dropped 14 kgs to look boyish and smaller than his frame, to play a medical college student. He said, in an interview that “I wanted to look boyish for the younger portions to play a medical student. I didn’t want a perfect body; one that was manicured or chiselled because that’s not how college-going boys look. Seventy-five per cent of what you eat depends on your diet. I don’t drink alcohol and am a vegetarian. Generally, I live a healthy lifestyle. To lose weight, I needed to severely cut the calories I consumed, and train harder. Even though we were training, the look was achieved more via the diet; not so much in the gym. We had two months to lose the weight. I didn’t want to rush into anything since that is not healthy”.
Kabir Singh also stars Kiara Advani in lead role and is an official remake of Telugu hit Arjun Reddy.
