Shahid Kapoor always manages to surprise his audiences with his choice of roles. He was recently seen as Raja Ratan Singh in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmaavat. He played the titular character in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Shakespearean film Haider, based on Hamlet, and also was seen as Gabru the cocaine-snorting rapper in the critically acclaimed film Udta Punjab. Shahid Kapoor isn’t afraid of taking any risks.
In his upcoming film, Shahid has also gone for a risky, bad-boy avatar which clearly is miles away from his chocolatey hero vibe. Initially, Shahid’s cutesy-boy roles were how he rose to be a successful star. However, it has been a while since Shahid has shed the good-boy image and opted for risky, provocative roles.
Kabir Singh is the remake of a Telugu film Arjun Reddy which was directed by Sandeep Vanga. It starred Vijay Deverakonda and the remake, starring Shahid, is also directed by Sandeep.
Vijay Deverakonda also had weighed on the film, since Vijay had played the titular role. Vijay said that since the film will be directed by Sandeep himself, he is ‘quite sure that it will be good.' He said that he is ‘excited to watch it’ and is ‘eagerly waiting for it’. Shahid Kapoor was recently seen in the not-so-successful Batti Gul Meter Chalu which failed critically and commercially.
“I’m not a rebel without a cause. This is ME!! #KabirSinghTeaser,” posted Shahid on his Instagram announcing the teaser of the film.
Shahid Kapoor would also soon be seen as a producer in the biopic of boxer Dingko Singh. Reportedly Shahid would be playing the role of the boxer himself.
