The Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh has beaten Salman Khan starrer Bharat to become the highest first Sunday grosser by drawing in Rs 27.91 crores.

Kabir Singh has also become the 18thhighest all time first Sunday grosser. Kabir Singh, who is portrayed by Shahid Kapoor narrates the story of a surgeon who becomes self-destructive after his girlfriend, Preeti (Kiara Advani) is forced to marry another man. Writer-Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga brings to our screens an intense love story that starts when Kabir Singh falls in love at first sight with his junior. Kabir Singh is a remake of South Indian film Arjun Reddy.

The film was released Friday, June 21, across 3, 123 screens and has been steady at the box office. It opened on a high note and has managed to earn Rs 70.83 crores on its opening weekend.

A quick look at the box office collections comparing Kabir Singh’s business with that of other releases on 2019 show that the Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer beat Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Bharat by a very small margin – where Kabir Singh pulled in Rs 27. 91 crores, the Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial earned Rs 27.90 crores.

The movie also surpassed previous release such as Total Dhamaal that collected Rs. 25.50 cr, Kesari that collected Rs. 21.51 cr, Gully Boy that collected Rs. 21.30 cr, Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi that collected Rs. 15.50 cr, Uri – The Surgical Strike that collected Rs. 15.10 cr, De De Pyaar De that collected Rs. 14.74 cr, Luka Chuppi that collected Rs. 14.04 cr, and Stuent of the Year 2 that collected Rs. 12.75 cr.

It may even become Shahid Kapoor’s highest solo grosser in just three days. The original Kabir Singh Telugu film did Rs 49 crore lifetime business – the Hindi version is set to cross that in three days.
