Shahid Kapoor's Haider vs Hrithik Roshan's Bang Bang: The Battle Heats Up
Both films are going out of their way to undermine the other!
The much-anticipated action drama of the year Bang Bang, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, will hit over 4,500 screens across 50 countries on Thursday October 2, 2014. Produced by Fox Star Studios, the action-entertainer has been helmed by Siddharth Anand. "On Oct 2 'Bang Bang' will see the widest release ever for a Bollywood film across the world. Over 4,500 screens across 50 countries, with record breaking no of screens in the US, UK and the Middle East,” said Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, in a statement.
The film has already created a buzz among the audience with its adrenaline pumping teaser and sizzling chemistry between the lead actors. Meanwhile reports say there is a lot of behind-the-scenes wrangling happening because of the other big release of the week – Shahid Kapoor’s Haider. The Mumbai Mirror reports that theatre owners are being told that the theatres which won't give them more screens than the other film, will not get their next big film for exhibition.
Nitin Datar, VP, Cinema Owners Association, has been quoted as saying, "I have heard that both Fox Star Studios (Bang Bang) and UTV Motion Pictures (Haider) are threatening to withdraw business from us in the future if we do not give in to their demands. We hope to resolve this ugly war soon. Both parties simply refuse to share the shows equally."
The appeal of both films are very different with single screens more inclined towards giving Bang Bang a bigger chance than Haider. There is trouble at the multiplexes too with distribution chains confused over which film to give more screens to. As of now, Bang Bang appears to have a lead over Haider. For instance, Fun Cinemas in Mumbai said that their chain has decided to give 60 per cent of shows to Bang Bang and 40 per cent to Haider.
The battle has only begun and it remains to be seen which film will come on tops.
