Shahid Kapoor is one of the best performers in Bollywood right now. Whether it's romance, comedy, action or dance, the star seems to pull it all off. The 38-year-old first appeared as an extra in 1999's Taal behind Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and later, made his acting debut in 2003 with Ishq Vishk. Ever since, he's starred in several hit films such as Jab We Met, Haider, Udta Punjab and Padmaavat. His latest outing, Kabir Singh was a huge success and his father, Pankaj Kapur now hails him as the best actor of the generation.
Speaking at the Sahitya Aaj Tak 2019 event recently, Pankaj shared, “My son has been wiser than me in terms of his career graph. He saw to it that he became a star first and start to get all the roles that he wanted to do. I think it was a smarter move. We were trained in theatre so we always looked for characters and interesting scripts. We had our own journey, and this generation has its own journey. But I must also say, not because I am an indulgent father but he is his own generation’s one of the best actors and he is has proved it with films like Haider, Kabir Singh and Padmaavat.”
In an earlier interview, Shahid had credited his choice of his films to his father. He had said, “Nobody else had the guts to play these characters. Maybe because I am my father’s son, I felt the need to play such flawed characters.” He added, “You’ve to make choices which people around you say aren’t safe. You have to learn to find yourself as an artiste and not try and be like hundred other successful people.” After the success of Kabir Singh, Shahid will be next seen in Jersey. Rumours also suggest that the actor will share screen space with Katrina Kaif in Bang Bang Reloaded.
