It’s been 16 years to Ishq Vishk, the film that saw Shahid Kapoor make his debut in Bollywood back in 2003, is all set to get a sequel. The film also starred Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasury as the female leads, and became an instant hit as people couldn’t stop gushing over Shahid’s innocent, the chocolate boy looks.
Now, after 16 years, the sequel of Ishq Vishk is on the cards as confirmed by the producer Ramesh Taurani.
"Yes, we are making a sequel to Ishq Vishk. The story is in the scripting stage and could be about a teenage romance or a college romance. Hopefully, in the next two-three months, we will lock the script and start looking for the director and cast." The producer told Mumbai Mirror.
Talking about how he had finalized Shahid Kapoor for Ishq Vishk back in 2003, Taurani revealed, that he had first seen the young actor in Aryan’s music video Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra in 1999. But, he was too young to be launched as a hero then. Taurani kept him in mind, and when he heard the story of Ishq Vishk from Ken Ghosh after 2 or 3 years, he immediately thought of Shahid for the lead hero named Rajiv.
“When we got Ken on board, he had suggested two-three different concepts which would have required established stars and didn’t really impress me. Then, he came up with an idea to be headlined by newcomers, which we really liked and greenlit the project. We worked really hard on the film, the entire process from the first pitch to the wrap took us a year,” added Taurani.
Amrita Rao, who was scouted by the team after seeing her in a coffee commercial, the team thought she would be apt for the role of Payal in the film.
According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, the producer addressed the rumours of Girish Taurani being featured in the sequel.
“Nothing like that. We are writing it now, and once done will take a call if Girish should feature in the film or not.” Taurani said.
Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Arora were also paired again in Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!, Shikhar and Vivah.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Shahid is currently shooting for Kabir Singh, a remake of the critically acclaimed Telugu hit, Arjun Reddy. Directed by Sandeep Vanga, who also helmed the original, the film is about a hot-headed surgeon who goes on a path of self-destruction after the love of his life weds someone else.
