Still from Kabir Singh

Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s latest movie, Kabir Singh has dominated the box-office collections. The film is still continuing its magnificent run at the cash counters and there are no indications of slowing down. It has already raked in almost Rs 240 crore at the box office and is only a few short steps away from becoming the highest grosser of 2019. Even though a lot of reviews stated that the film reinforced misogynistic and patriarchal themes, audiences were touched by the way the way the characters played their parts. Shahid’s portrayal of a wrecked lover who takes the route of alcoholism is absolutely astounding. Scenes, where he is unable to control his anger and habits, are proof of his multifaceted character. While Kiara’s simple and quiet, emotive behavior has mesmerized the hearts of many.

Recently in an interview, the actor was quizzed about how he prepared for his role, to which he said, “For Kabir Singh, I had to create three different silhouettes, one of which needed me to get out of shape. My normal weight is around 71-72 kg, I had to add over 5 kg going up to 76-77kg, a lot of it fat and look destroyed in those scenes. It was challenging but also, I admit, very exciting at the same time.”

He further explained the intricacies of his character and revealed, “The part I was apprehensive about was the one in which I had to portray a younger avatar.  At 38, I was expected to play a boy of 25. Today’s audience is much evolved and won’t overlook any discrepancies in appearance, knowing that I worked hard to get my look right. I play a surgeon in the film and here I must mention that my director Sandeep Vanga who is a qualified physiotherapist himself was of great help. I did my basic R&D too, but beyond that, I wanted to find the character and not just focus on his profession.”

Fans and followers are ever so mesmerized by the film and by the actor and are continuing to go to the cinemas…
