In a recent interview, the Badshah of Bollywood said he was inclined towards spending more time with his family. And for this reason, he has not signed any new movies. On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in the Anand L Rai directorial venture ‘Zero’ which reunited him with his Jab Tak Hai Jaan co-stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif
With Shah Rukh not in the mood to return to work any time soon, the Don franchise may not be fast tracked as previous reports had suggest. Sources say the film’s producers, Ritish Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, are also not inclined to make another Don film at the moment or in near future.
A sources close to the producers dismissed rumours that Shah Rukh would be replaced in Don 3. “These stories about this and the other actors taking over the Don baton are so out of line,” said the source. “Farhan Akhtar (director of the Don series) has no script, not even an idea for a plot to do another Don film. He’s busy with his acting and music career. He hasn’t directed any film for the last nine years. His last directorial was Don 2 in 2011.”
“It looks like the Don series is dead,” added the source.
A close director-friend of the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor agreed with the afore mentioned opinion. “I don’t see any inclination in Farhan to direct a film at this point of his life,” he said. “Right now he’s busy prepping for the role of his lifetime as a boxer in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofan. That will keep him busy this year and most of 2020. Before that he has just completed another acting role in Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink.” The friend further asked, “Where do you see direction fitting into his schedule?” he asked.
