Shah Rukh Khan’s Bard of Blood: Here’s What You Need to Know About Sobhita Dhulipala’s Character

Sobhita Dhulipala -- who rose to prominence this year as the female lead, Tara Khanna, of Amazon Prime’s drama series Made in Heaven -- is appearing in a completely different avatar in the upcoming Netflix series, Bard of Blood, co-starring Emraan Hashmi and Vineet Kumar Singh. The streaming service recently unveiled a new teaser introducing Sobhita’s character, Isha Khanna, who is a senior analyst with Indian spy agency. In the teaser, Isha -- who appears to be frustrated after receiving continuous rejections from mission postings, because she is a female officer -- complains to a senior (Rajit Kapur) who then assigns her to a mission during which she needs to work with Kabir Anand, aka Adonis (Emraan) to rescue some Indian agents who are being held hostage. Despite the imminent danger, Sobhita appears pleased and embarks on the journey with Adonis.

This is the first time Sobhita has done a role filled with action: a bruised Isha looks tough on screen and is seen using different types of guns, quite in contrast to her glamorous looks in Made in Heaven.

In a recent interview, the actress said she was surprised that not only was she “pretty decent at doing action but also enjoyed it.” She also shared that while the show has "political undertones" and a “historical angle attached to it and the conflict”, it portrays the field agents from a more human perspective, depicting their fears and other emotions, and gender dynamics. Produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, Bard of Blood has seven episodes and is based on Bilal Siddiqi’s bestselling novel by the same name. The series has been directed by Ribhu Dasgupta and will also feature Kirti Kulhari and Jaideep Ahlawat in supporting roles. It will premiere on Netflix on 27th September.
