Shah Rukh Khan has ruled the big screen and our hearts for a long time. Ever since the 90s, Shah Rukh Khan redefined the way we looked at love and relationships. SRK, as he is popularly known as made us believe in love and be die hard romantics, without an iota of shame. Over the years King Khan has given us several hit films such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dil To Pagal Hai, to name a few. But even the Badshah of Bollywood has made mistakes and made some very questionable choices when it came to films. Here is a list of films, SRK is definitely not impressed with.
1) Maya Memsaab
This movie had big names to boast of – Shah Rukh Khan, Deepa Sahi, Farooque Shaikh and Raj Babbar. Deepa Sahi is a woman with a mysterious past who has an affair with a much younger man, Shah Rukh Khan. The movie tanked badly and there is hardly any trace of the movie on the interweb. It was one of the most bizarre and obscure films ever made in Bollywood. The movie had a love making scene between SRK and Deepa Sahi, and is sure to embarrass him if he sees the movie now.
2) Oh Darling Yeh Hai India
Shah Rukh Khan teamed up with Deepa Sahi in yet another bizarre movie. The movie has a weak script and makes no sense at all. We wonder why SRK even agreed to do this film.
3) English Babu Desi Mem
This Shah Rukh Khan and Sonali Bendre film starrer had SRK playing a double role. This film also starred the cute kid from Dekh Bhai Dekh, Sunny Singh. This film has a storyline where a modern US return SRK falls in love with a local dancer Sonali. Sadly, it didn’t impress the audiences as there was no chemistry between the two.
Shah Rukh Khan did a double role again in the film with one of his favourite co-stars, Juhi Chawla. Even though the duo have given us hits like Darr and Yes Boss, Duplicate did not impress his fans. The movie was directed by the late Yash Johar and it too went down as one of SRK’s disastrous films.
This multi-starred film from the YRF camp was a highly awaited film. It starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles. It launched 6 faces in Bollywood such as Uday Chopra, Shamita Shetty, Kim Sharma, Jugal Hansraj, Jimmy Shergill and Preeti Jhangiani. While it set up a box office clash with Mission Kashmir, this one due to the length failed to impress people. The songs were hit, but it ended being a launch vehicle for star kids than being a SRK- Big B film.
6) Dil Ashna Hai
This would have been Shah Rukh Khan’s debut film as a lead, as he had signed it before he signed Deewana. But sadly, this film was stuck in the making due to several reasons. Veteran actress Hema Malini directed the film and it starred Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, the late Divya Bharati, Sonu Walia, Amrita Singh and Dimple Kapadia. Divya Bharati plays the lead who is in search of her birth mother who abandoned her at birth. This movie, however, over the years has developed a cult status.
7) Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam
This film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan in the lead roles. This was a movie which was made before the SRK-Salman rivalry hit Bollywood. SRK plays a jealous husband, while Madhuri plays his doting wife. The melodrama was over the top and the plot had way too many loopholes. It didn’t impress anyone and the film flopped badly.
The movie based on the King Asoka of the Maurya Dynasty may perhaps go down as SRK’s only period drama. The film got stuck in controversies as some people had objections to the portrayal of Princess Kaurvaki, played by Kareena Kapoor. The songs were popular but the film performed poorly at the box-office. The movie was directed by ace director, Santosh Sivan.
The film starred Manisha Koirala and Shah Rukh Khan, the same Jodi that gave us Dil Se. But the film had a poor storyline and it failed to grab eyeballs. It was a huge disaster at the box-office. The film also starred Mukesh Khanna and Deepti Naval who played Shah Rukh Khan’s parents.
This film is considered to be one of the most expensive films to have ever been made in Bollywood. The film had a staggering budget of 200 crores and had some of the best animation experts in the country working on this film. Shah Rukh Khan tried to make sci-fi film in the Indian film arena which sadly did not interest masses and classes. The film was panned heavily, even though some of the songs later became party anthems.
