Still from Devdas

The 2002 blockbuster Devdas feautured one of the best cast in Indian cinema including the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit-Nene. While the film is remembered fondly for its star-studded team, it’s the dialogues of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-helmed project that are at the tip of our tongue even today. Kaun kambakht bardaasht karne ko peeta hai? and many others are still said by fans in day to day conversations. On the occasion of the film’s 17 years in Bollywood this past weekend, the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham star reached out to his 38.5 million followers on Twitter.

Shah Rukh complimented the photographers of the film for their epic work and retweeted a few monochrome stills. “Ishika has taken some of the nicest pictures of mine and the film. This is so good!” read his caption. Ishika Mohan Motwane too shared a few more pictures from the sets of Devdas and wrote, “This is so hard but so right! I couldn’t keep. @iamsrk I’ve always said it’s magic working with you. Correction – the image you posted was shot by @VikramMotwane (Ishika’s husband). We fight about who is a better photographer. But I’ll take your word for it. The ones below are some of mine.”

Ishika also revealed Devdas was her first feauture film as an on-set photographer. She tweeted, “Celebrating #17YearsOfDevdas My first feature film as an On Set Photographer. The most terrifying and satisfying!”

There are a few films in Hindi cinema that can compete with Devdas. However, none of them stirred the same emotions that this yesteryear classic did. As the magnum opus still one of the most quotable films of our time, Bollywood junkies have a special place for the film in their hearts. The film had a spectacular run at the box office, kicked off the career of B-town’s most famous stars and continuous to garner massive viewership.
