A heated debate broke out on the internet this morning, after Saroj Khan’s remarks on the casting couch situation in the industry. The choreographer defended the casting couch, saying that women can avoid assault if they wish too. Many people on social media called her out on being insensitive and disrespectful to women, and a few Bollywood stars also showed their disappointment over the statements made.
However, now Saroj Khan has issued an apology for unintentionally hurting sentiments. She clarified saying that her remarks were misconstrued by the media and she didn’t condone the casting couch. In a recent statement to Bombay Times She said, “I’ve said I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry! The media should also listen to the questios that was asked to me in that press conference. Maine kuch bhi justify ya defend nahi kiya hai. These are the words used by the media. Maine kaha ke film industry ki taraf hamesha ungli kyun uthaayi jaati hai? Yeh har jagah hota hai. Phir bhi main sorry bolna chahungi. Mujhe aur kuch nahi pata. I don’t want to say anything else.”
