Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan’s Coolie No 1 was being shot at Filmistan Studio in Mumbai recently when a fire broke out on the sets

Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan are currently shooting for Coolie No 1, directed by David Dhawan. Around a week ago, when the stars were filming in Filmistan Studio, Goregaon, Mumbai, a fire broke out. Although no one was harmed, it took the fire brigade around three hours to get things under control. Producer Jaccky Bhagnani took to Twitter to thank the firefighters and police for their prompt response, he wrote, “We would like to thank the Firefighters, Mumbai Police and the BMC officials for their immediate assistance, after a concerning situation on the sets of #Coolieno1 The fire was put out immediately with no casualties. I want to thank everyone for their concern and wishes.”

However, the fire managed to destroy a part of the set and some light equipment, leading to a huge financial loss of the makers. According to a report, producers Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukhhave have estimated a loss of INR 2-2.5 crore, as a result of loss of materials supplied by third parties. However, the film is insured and a claim process will begin soon, although the cause of the fire is still unknown.

The film is a remake of 1995 superhit comedy film of the same name, also directed by David Dhawan. The original starred Govinda as the coolie (now being played by Varun) and Karisma Kapoor as his love interest (played by Sara Ali Khan). This will be the lead pair’s first film together. Coolie No 1 film also stars Paresh Rawal in Sara’s father’s role, which was played by the late Kader Khan. Iconic song Main Toh Raste Se Jaa Raha Tha will be recreated in the remake. Shooting for the movie commenced  in August in Bangkok and the film is scheduled for release next year, on 1st May 2020.
