Sania Mirza has confirmed the news of her sister Anam Mirza’s wedding with Asad, who is the son of former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin. In an interview with the Times of India, the tennis star said, "She (Anam) is actually getting married in December. We just came back from her bachelorette trip in Paris. We are really excited. She is marrying a lovely boy. His name is Asad and he happens to be the son of Mohammad Azharuddin and we are really excited about it."
Sania had posted a picture with Asad in March this year, captioning it “Family”, which had sparked rumours about Anam and Asad’s relationship. Anam, who is seven years younger than Sania, had also posted some pictures of her bachelorette party in Paris last month.
The tennis star, who is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, recently also spoke about her own personal experiences, revealing how she was advised to stop playing tennis because "no one would marry" her if her complexion became dark as a result of playing outdoors. Speaking at the World Economic Forum, during a panel discussion on women and leadership, she said, "To start with, parents, neighbours, aunties and the uncles (need to) stop telling you how dark you will become and no one will marry you if you play a sport. I was just eight (when this came up) and everybody thought nobody is going to marry me because I would get dark. I thought to myself I am just a kid, I'll be fine." Sania has been on a break from sports as she gave birth to a baby boy last year and is currently working on making her comeback. She is expected to be back on the court by January 2020.
